Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 6/20/19 – “We’re creating our own path rather than waiting for galleries to decide our fate”, says Terri Lloyd, organizer of the 3rd quarterly art show of the LA artist collective, HIGHLAND PARK ART HOMIES.
Art opening: Saturday, June 22, 2019 from 12-7pm or later given that a DJ will be spinning tunes during the latter half of the event. 340 N. Avenue 61, Los Angeles, 90042 is the address.
Ok, so I made up the name HIGHLAND PARK ART HOMIES. It’s good but an even better name for this fearless art collective is: “The Young American Artists” which is a play on “The Young British Artists”, who, like this Young American Artist group also took things into their own hands and created their own shows without waiting around for galleries to pop a piece or two into a group show once every five years. The Young British Artists showed in warehouses in England and not in posh galleries Beverly Hills or WeHo and now you can see one those artists, Sarah Lucas, at The Hammer. The Young American Artists are showing in the home of Terri Lloyd in Highland Park, Los Angeles. You’ll see Fuck paintings, cat paintings, Spiritual AF paintings, sculpture, metal works and a big conversational Macaw and actual living cats will be wandering around. Plan on seeing one of these artists in The Hammer before long, too.
Saturday, June 22: Art? Yes. Cool people? Yes. An amazing DJ? YES. Home cooked food? Yes. You? Yes. The door is open. Parking available on street.
Come early to hear the artists discuss their work.
All art is for sale. Cash, Venmo, Paypal, your first child, all accepted as payment.
