ABC aired the final episode “The Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show” in 2000, which was the last time a Bugs Bunny, Looney Tunes or Merrie Melodies cartoon appeared on broadcast television as part of a regularly scheduled series. Since its launch in 1960, the Bugs Bunny and company cartoon show, which was known by several different names, alternated between ABC and CBS. In 2000, Cartoon Network became the exclusive home to the library…Celebrity Birthdays: NFL great and current “Better Late Than Never” star Terry Bradshaw is 68; “TMZ’s” Harvey Levin is 66; “NCIS” star Mark Harmon is 65; Actor Keanu Reeves is 52; Actress Selma Hayek is 50.

Did You Know?:
Prior to “NCIS,” Mark Harmon had an ongoing role in seven regularly scheduled series: “Sam” on CBS, “240-Robert” on ABC, NBC’s “Flamingo Road,” “St. Elsewhere” and “Reasonable Doubts,” “Charlie Grace” on ABC, and CBS’ “Chicago Hope.”  His first job as an actor was a guest spot on “Ozzie’s Girls” in 1973, the syndicated spin-off from classic sitcom “The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet.”

TLC Renews “Too Close to Home” for Season Two
TLC has ordered a second season of its first scripted series, Tyler Perry’s Too Close to Home.”  Debuting on August 22, the drama follows a young woman, Anna, from a working class life who, after having an affair with the President of the United States, becomes the center of a political scandal. When the scandal erupts, she returns to her old life.

The logline in season two: Anna (Danielle Savre) must face the past that she so eagerly left behind, and her new reality may prove too much for her to handle. Back in Happy, Alabama, Anna reunites with her controlling mother, Jolene (Trisha Stahl); her sweet yet overburdened sister, Bonnie (Kelly Sullivan); and her drug-addicted sister, Shelby (Brooke Anne Smith). Although she’s left behind a mess in D.C., there are serious problems brewing in Happy, and Anna is quickly thrown into the drama. She also has to confront unfinished business with her high school sweetheart, Brody (Brock O’Hurn).

Lifetime Cancels “Devious Maids”
Lifetime has opted against a fifth season of scripted drama “Devious Maids.”  Debuting on June 23, 2013 and originally developed for ABC, “Devious Maids” centered on a close-knit group of maids who are working for some of the most powerful families of Beverly Hills, California.  It was created by Marc Cherry (“Desperate Housewives”), produced by ABC Studios and executive produced by Cherry, Sabrina Wind, Eva Longoria, Paul McGuigan, Larry Shuman, David Lonner, John Mass, Paul Presburger, and Michael Garcia.

The now final episode of “Devious Maids,” which averaged less than 900,000 viewers and just a 0.3 rating in adults 18-49, aired on August 8th.  A total of 49 episodes were produced.

Disney XD Orders Second Season of “MECH-X4” Prior to Debut
Optimistic Disney XD has greenlit a second season of upcoming live-action adventure series “MECH-X4” prior to its official November 12th debut.  The new series, starring Nathaniel James Potvin, Raymond Cham, Kamran Lucas, and Alyssa Jirrels, follows the story of Ryan Walker, a student who discovers he is able to control technology with his mind. It comes from creator and executive producer Steve Marmel (“Sonny with a Chance”), with Anupam Nigam and Brian Hamilton also serving as executive producers.

The first season will debut in two episodes simulcast Saturday, November 12 at 8 PM EDT, on Disney Channel and Disney XD.  Effective Friday, October 28, a preview episode debuts on multiple digital platforms. Production for the second season of “MECH-X4” begins this month.


“Judge Judy” to Develop Scripted Series Based on Her Life
Judith Sheindlin, better known as Judge Judy, is entering the scripted drama arena.  The daytime court show judge is developing a potential new drama called “Her Honor” for CBS, which is inspired by her own life.  “Her Honor” will follow the youngest judge in New York, who cuts through the chaos in Family Court, but can’t seem to maintain control of her own life outside the courtroom. “Law & Order” and “Chicago Justice” showrunner Michael Chernuchin is writing the pilot, alongside Sheindlin who is billed as story co-writer.

“Her Honor” is not the first scripted series inspired by an unscripted television star’s life to land at CBS. This fall, Michael Weatherly will star in “Bull,” a legal drama based on the early life of TV personality Dr. Phil McGraw.  It debuts on Tuesday, Sept. 20 out of the season premiere of “NCIS,” formerly featuring Weatherly, and it airs into the season premiere of relocated “NCIS: New Orleans.”  “Her Honor” is being developed for 2017.

“Big Brother: Over the Top” to Debut on CBS All Access on Sept. 28
CBS Interactive has announced Big Brother: Over the Top” as the official title of the upcoming digital edition on CBS All Access.  Hosted by Julie Chen, it will begin streaming on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 10 p.m. ET.

The scoop: “Big Brother: Over the Top” will welcome an all-new cast of houseguests to the “Big Brother” house in a 10-week season that reimagines the “Big Brother” format for multi-platform audiences. Fans will have more opportunities to engage with the houseguests, while also having access to all the “Big Brother” interactive features they love – 24/7 live feeds, chat and impact votes, plus a weekly one-hour episode with live evictions and more.

Additional details for “Big Brother: Over the Top” will be announced at a later date.

CBS Sports Teams with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
CBS Sports has joined forces with St. Jude’s Children’s Research in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. As part of the partnership, CBS Sports will assist St. Jude in raising awareness of pediatric cancer throughout the month of September during its football coverage on CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network, and on CBS social channels.

To kick off the Network’s support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the CBS Cares campaign will shine a spotlight on St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, beginning tonight in primetime, with PSAs featuring CBS Sports’ James Brown and Bill Cowher.

CBS Sports’ involvement with St. Jude in September will be highlighted by a visit to Memphis by The NFL Today team. Brown, Cowher, Tony Gonzalez, Bart Scott and Boomer Esiason visited the St. Jude campus to meet patients and their families, and learn more about the research and treatment being done at the hospital.  And Austin Denton, a 15-year old St. Jude patient with ambition to be a sports broadcaster, will join “The NFL Today” on Sunday, Sept. 25.

Discovery Channel Acquires Worldwide Rights to Documentary “Sacred Cod”
Discovery Channel announced the purchase of global rights of the documentary “Sacred Cod,” which will make its world premiere at the 2016 Camden International Film Festival and debut on Discovery in 2017 under the Discovery Impact banner. “Sacred Cod” the collapse of the historic cod fishery in the waters off New England in the United States. Scientists and environmental advocates have attributed the collapse to overfishing, climate change, and government mismanagement. Many of the fishermen — who are losing their livelihoods and way of life as the species have declined — have argued that the science is wrong and have protested government policies that have banned them in recent years from fishing for cod.
