Ratings Breakdown:
Led by “The Bachelorette,” ABC topped this third Monday in July with a 20 percent advantage in the household overnights over second-place NBC. “The Bachelorette” scored a 4.6 rating/8 share opposite a 3.6/ 6 for NBC’s competing “American Ninja Warrior,” which was a decline of 12 percent year-to-year. But NBC will certainly narrow the gap in the key young adult demographics.

Also original last night was Fox’s failing “Superhuman,” which at a mere 1.3/ 2 in the9 p.m. hour dipped by 38 percent from lead-in “So You Think You Can Dance” (2.1/ 4 from 8-9 p.m. p.m.). A 9 p.m. edition of The CW’s “Whose Line is it Anyway?” scored a typical 0.7/ 1 in the household overnights. And “Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge” on NBC finished second in the 10 p.m. hour with a 2.1/ 4.

Record Ratings for “Game of Thrones” Season Opener
A record 16.1 million viewers tuned in for Sunday’s season seven premiere of the HBO’s “Game of Thrones” across all platforms on July 16. That includes the 10.1 million television viewers who watched on HBO Sunday night, with the remainder tuning in for two encore telecasts combined with streaming with the HBO Go and HBO Now apps.

Comparably, this total 16.1 million tally represents an increase of 50 percent from the season six premiere on April 24, 2016, while the 10.1 million single telecast total on HBO is a rise of 27 percent. This is now the most-watched season opening episode for any series in the history of HBO.

HBO also said Sunday’s premiere had “the highest number of concurrent viewers” across the network’s streaming services. And the season-opener was also the show’s most-tweeted episode of all time, with 2.4 million tweets were sent during the episode.

Australian Drama “Newton’s Law” to Air on Acorn TV
ABC Commercial has signed a new agreement with RLJ Entertainment’s Acorn brand for rights to Australian television drama series “Newton’s Law.” Produced by Every Cloud Productions (“Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries”), “Newton’s Law” centers around a suburban solicitor who attempts to return to her briefly glorious career at the Bar.

As part of a five-year deal “Newton’s Law” will be available to North American audiences on TV streaming service Acorn TV in Fall 2017.


Samantha Harris to Co-Host “Culinary Genius”
Former “Dancing with the Stars” and “Entertainment Tonight” co-host Samantha Harris has been named host of “Culinary Genius,” a half-hour cooking competition produced by Gordon Ramsay. “Culinary Genius” will initially be test-run for three weeks on Fox owned- and operated-stations in certain TV markets beginning onMonday, August 7.

Adapted from the English show of the same name, “Culinary Genus” will feature contestants competing in a 25-minute cooking competition where the winner is crowned the culinary genius of the day. It is produced by Studio Ramsay and All3Media.

Mark Fuhrman to Offer Commentary on O.J. Simpson Hearing
Fox News has tapped former LAPD detective Mark Fuhrman to provide analysis and commentary for the network’s coverage of O.J. Simpson’s parole hearing on Thursday. Fuhrman was a key witness and a key figure in the O.J. Simpson trial, and was charged with perjury when it came out that his claim to have not used racial epithets in the past turned out to be false.

The network will be reporting live on the hearing from both Lovelock Correctional Center in Nevada and the Nevada Parole Board.

Fuhrman, a Fox News contributor, has appeared on the network several times over the last few years to discuss crime and police brutality, among other issues.

UP TV to Theme Labor Day Weekend to Having a Baby
Family friendly UP TV will feature what it calls “a mother of a marathon” on Labor Day weekend beginning on Saturday, Sept. 2 with baby-themed “America’s Funniest Videos” episodes, a” Bringing Up Bates” Baby special and movies “Look Who’s Talking” and “Look Who’s Talking Too” leading into a new unscripted special “Expecting” (working title).

“Expecting,” which airs Monday, Sept. 4 at 9 p.m. ET, will showcase the highs and the lows culminating in one of life’s biggest moments. Featured will be the journeys of Kelsey and Corbin Scott of Portland, Oregon; Tia and Tre Patterson of Atlanta, Georgia; and Ashley and Thomas Hughes of Pleasant View, Utah. “Expecting” is produced in partnership with Entertainment One (eOne). Executive Producers for eOne are Aynsley Vogel, Cal Shumiatcher and Jessica Mathies.

Nickelodeon Begins Production on “Inside Voice”
Nickelodeon began production yesterday on new original TV movie, “Inside Voice,” starring Jace Norman (“Henry Danger”), JoJo Siwa (“JoJo Siwa: My World,” “Dance Moms”) and Daniella Perkins (“Knight Squad”). Set to premiere in 2018, the live-action comedy tells the story of a kid who, after a comical VR mishap, starts speaking every thought he has out loud. To complicate matters, he happens to be running in the school election. Production is underway in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Reelz Channel will debut upcoming docuseries “The Kitty Kelley Files” onSaturday, July 29 at 10 p.m. ET. The logline: Kitty Kelley is a seven-time New York Times best-selling author who has built her career on moving icons out of the moonlight and into the sunlight. In this new series Kelley will unearth the true tales of some of America’s most beloved celebrities including Julia Roberts, Princess Diana, George Clooney, Drew Barrymore and Frank Sinatra and tell their stories through the lens of the sensational events that they either triumphed over or were destroyed by. Kelley presents each story in hour-long episodes with her signature frankness and charm while she digs behind the headlines to reveal how incredible details in each story came to light.

Season three of CMT’s “I Love Kellie Pickler” will kick-off on Thursday, Aug. 3 at 11 p.m. ET. The docu-comedy follows the country music star and personality as she navigates her madcap relationships with friends and family, along with her husband, Kyle Jacobs, her complete opposite.

A&E Network will premiere the new six-episode, limited documentary series, “The Murder of Laci Peterson” showcasing new interviews with Scott Peterson himself from prison, on Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 10 p.m. ET. The series explores the infamous Scott Peterson trial, the case that destroyed a family, gripped a nation and defined an era, as a vehicle for understanding America’s criminal justice system and the ways in which outside influences can affect that system

Destination America will debut docuseries “Haunted Towns,” which explores places that played key roles in the darker chapters of American history, on Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 10 p.m. ET. The series will feature the Tennessee Wraith Chasers — Chris, Doogie, Porter, and Brannon – as they interview witnesses, investigate hotspots using the latest ghost-hunting technology, and follow new leads until they can pinpoint who is haunting the town and why.

“Party Boat,” the latest original movie on Crackle, will premiere on Thursday, Aug. 24, with an exclusive debut on Playstation two days ahead of the network release on Tuesday, Aug. 22. “Party Boat” centers around Max (Brett Davern), a fun-loving, yet irresponsible party animal, dedicated to bringing the fun by whatever means necessary. He is on a mission to throw his wildest party to date – a birthday party for his best friend, Kiley (Katie Leclerc). Unbeknownst to Kiley, Max has had a crush on her since middle school. When Max finds out that Kiley’s boyfriend (Sung Kang) plans to propose, he embarks on an adventure to win her heart and throw his most epic rager yet.

Season five of Bravo’s “Below Deck” will open on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 9 p.m. ET. The logline: It’s all hands on deck when fan favorites Captain Lee Rosbach, Kate Chastain (chief stew) and Nico Scholly (senior deckhand) team up again for another Caribbean charter aboard the 154’ mega yacht “Valor,” as they navigate the choppy waters of luxury yachting off the coast of St. Maarten.
