mun2 WINS TWO IMAGEN AWARDS AT THE 29TH ANNUAL IMAGEN AWARDS HONORING LATINOS IN ENTERTAINMENT

 “Combate Americas” Wins Best Reality Series and “Larry Hernandez: El Presidente” Wins Best Web Series: Comedy

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA – August 5, 2014 – mun2, the modern general entertainment cable channel for Latinos, won two Imagen Awards for “Combate Americas” and “Larry Hernandez: El Presidente” at the 29th Annual Imagen Awards last Friday night.

“The Imagen Foundation is an organization committed to recognizing the achievements of Latinos in the entertainment and communications industries and we are extremely honored to receive this recognition from them,” said mun2 president, Rubén Mendiola.  “At mun2, we are committed to super-serving the Latino community and these two award-winning programs are a reflection of our commitment and what is yet to come as we continue the evolution of our network.”

“Combate Americas,” the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competition reality series produced by mun2 and Bunim-Murray Productions, won the award for Best Reality Series. In attendance to receive the award were Campbell McLaren (UFC Founder), Gabriela Cocco Sanchez (Executive Producer, Bunim-Murray Productions), Margie Moreno (Executive Producer, mun2), Gloria Medel Solomons (Executive Producer, mun2), and Luisa Varona (Executive Producer, mun2). The series was shot in Miami and followed 10 professional Hispanic MMA fighters as they competed to win a coveted spot in Combate Americas, the first Spanish language MMA sports franchise designed to serve the Hispanic audience.

“Larry Hernandez: El Presidente,” the comical vignette featuring regional Mexican artist and mun2 star Larry Hernandez as the first Latino President of the United States, won the awards for Best Web Series: Comedy. In attendance to receive the award were Omar Villegas (Writer, mun2) and Antonio Perez (Director, mun2).

The awards were presented on Friday evening during a dinner ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Among celebrities in attendance were special honorees, Daisy Fuentes, Manny Coto, and Fred Armisen.  They were joined by stars such as Ana Ortiz, Jon Seda, Dania Ramirez, Kenny Ortega, and TV Producer and Imagen Founder, Norman Lear, who presented his special award of the evening.
