How did you start your journey?

My journey as a designer started from Rojava in Kurdistan. It has always been a childhood dream to become a designer. At first, it was just a hobby, but then I decided to study it and pursue it as a future profession. I have studied fashion design at the University of Dubai and worked there from 2010 -2014. I moved to Germany after that and opened my own boutique called JoJo Braut & Abendmode in Bochum in 2016. I am specialized in bridal and evening wear and have customers flying in from many different countries from Europe. I feel very blessed to have a loving and supportive family and husband, to have achieved so much, and even built my business. It was a long way to come that far as we have lived in different countries and sometimes had to start from scratch.

Tell us about the Kurdish solo segment “The hidden beauty of Kurdistan” represented by Zarya Azadi at the House of iKons.

The Kurdish solo segment “The hidden beauty of Kurdistan” at the House of iKons would have never been possible for us Kurdish designers without the effort and creative ideas of Zarya Azadi. She is one of the sponsors of the House of iKons and has opened the doors for us designers to be seen and recognized as a Kurdish community and nation. It is very unfortunate that we are still the largest nation in the world without an independent country and therefore many people don’t know about us as a nation or about our art. The idea behind the Kurdish solo segment is to represent us as a nation using our art and culture. I am extremely proud and honored to be closing the show with my royal-looking wedding dresses.

Tell us about the upcoming London Fashion Week and the House of iKons. Why is this show so important to you?

The House of iKons fashion show during the London Fashion Week is very important to me as I am excited to show the world my latest bridal collection. I work so hard for this collection to show my best and save no expense and effort to live up to that. Using different and high-quality fabrics and even using Swarovski stones to give it the finishing touch. I am specifically creating new designs for the catwalk. I am very honored for the opportunity to be part of such an international fashion event.

What do you enjoy the most about being a designer?

I like to create designs myself and to let my creativity run free and finally to realize and see them in reality. It is a wonderful feeling to see your work completed. I only focus on bridal and evening wear with the specialty in haute couture bridal dresses. My designs are extravagant to make every bride feel like a princess at her most important and very special day of her life.

Describe your designs in a sentence.

My style as a designer is creating extravagant princess-worthy wedding dresses with very high-quality fabrics.
