Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 6/12/2018–“Fundraising is super important to the work that we do, but the visibility of the organization and the message are probably what’s most important,” said LADF Executive Director Nichol Whiteman. “Tonight, we have a Dodgers RBI participant, someone in our program who will get on stage and share her story about how the Dodgers Foundation has truly impacted her, and I think people need to hear that and understand where their dollars are going and why their support is so important to these kids.”
The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) held its fourth annual Blue Diamond Gala which was presented by the Los Angeles Dodgers Ownership Group and emceed by comedy icons Arsenio Hall and George Lopez. Multi-award winner John Legend was the headline performer for the evening which raised over $2.2 million for the Foundation’s Direct Programs.
Attendees enjoyed an evening under the stars on the field at Dodger Stadium along side Dodgers players and coaches and a 90 minute concert by Legend.
Individual tickets ranged from $1,000 to sponsorship deals costing $100,000. The sold-out event brought 1,700 guests together who all walked the blue carpet at Dodger Stadium Monday night. Los Angeles Dodgers Owners Mark Walter, Todd Boehly, Robert “Bobby” Patton, Jr., Peter Guber, manager Dave Roberts and members of the coaching staff were in attendance as well.
Players at the fundraiser included Austin Barnes, Cody Bellinger, Walker Buehler, Tony Cingrani, Logan Forsythe, Yasmani Grandal, Enrique Hernandez, Rich Hill, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Kenley Jansen, Matt Kemp, Clayton Kershaw, Max Muncy, Joc Pederson, Yasiel Puig, Corey Seager, Ross Stripling, Chris Taylor, Justin Turner, Chase Utley, and Alex Wood.
“This is such a close-knit group and clubhouse,” said Rich Hill. “We love being together — anything to have the opportunity to come together and dress up and see each other outside of the clubhouse or off the field is always welcome. We truly enjoy it.”
Among the celebrity guests, sports figures and personalities in attendance were former Los Angeles Dodgers Nomar Garciaparra, Steve Garvey, Orel Hershiser, Rick Monday, Manny Mota, Fernando Valenzuela, Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda, Chrissy Teigen (John Legend’s wife), Terry Crews, Greg Louganis, Holly Robinson Peete, Marque Richardson, former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and Damion & Brandi Square from the Los Angeles Chargers.
“There are a lot of people who do not get to live their best lives, and we know that,” said actor Terry Crews. “…We’ve been in different spots where we needed help. I’m just very thankful to be in this position and to be invited here and hopefully to help with the foundation and any way we can.”
Proceeds from the Blue Diamond Gala will support the expansion of its direct programs — Dodgers Dreamfields and Dodger RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities)
LADF is the official team charity of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Its primary focus is to support cornerstone programs in Sports + Recreation, Education + Literacy and Health + Wellness benefitting children and families in need throughout the greater Los Angeles region.
