Dancing Their Way to the Top: The World Choreography Awards

Beverly Hills, CA (The Hollywood Times) 11/2/2018–The 8th Annual World Choreography Awards was held October 23rd at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, performing to an audience that truly lives and breathes the joy of dance.  Produced and directed by Cheryl Baxter-Ratliff and Allen Walls, it’s a global event honoring the very best, and most accomplished, in media choreography.

The WCA Awards

Now knocking at the door of a full decade, the WCA celebrates choreographic achievements in Motion Picture, Music Video, Commercials, Television (episodic), Television Awards Shows/Specials, Digital Content, Digital Content (Independent), and Television Reality Show/Competition.

Dancer and Actor Kenny Wormald hosted the show.  Many top choreographers and dancers showcased their skills during the ceremony.  Sergei Pounin premiered his new piece featuring Kyle Allen; Emmy winner Tessandra Chavez recreated her work for Blake McGrath; and Alex Chung (featuring Instagrams top dance influencers) were among those who graced the stage.

The centerpiece of the WCA’s was the Joe Tremaine Legacy Award, which honors dancemakers who have truly changed the landscape of the dance community, was given to Debbie Allen.

Celebrities who attended included Mandy Moore, Kenny Ortega, Debbie Allen, Harry Shum Jr, Jojo Gomez, Glorya Kaufman, Anita Mann, Christopher Scott, and Robin Antin.

Motion Picture:   Ashley Wallen for The Greatest Showman

Television Episodic:  Kathryn Burns for Crazy Ex Girlfriend, Strip Away My Conscience

Digital Content:  Tessandra Chavez for Hold On

Commercials: Ashley Wallen for The Greatest Showman

Digital Content Independent:  Galen Hooks for Wait For me

Television Award Show/Special: Nick Florez and RJ Durell, Associate Choreographer, Bandaloop, American Music Awards, Pink

Music Video: Tessandra Chavez for Blake McGrath, Missing You

Television Reality Show/Competition: Keone and Mari Madrid for World of Dance, Happy
