American Director Matthew Heineman Wins Best Documentary at 37th Annual Moscow International Film Festival

(Moscow, Russia- 6/26/2015) On June 26th the winners of MIFF (Moscow International Film Festival) were announced on the beautiful scene of the Rossiya movie theatre. After several hours of red carpet arrivals, that could be compared to the Oscars, the producers, film directors and actors proceeded to the movie theater where the winners were announced.

Actresses were shining in beautiful dresses from legendary European designers like Dior. The attendees included famous actors, producers, TV hosts and even politicians. THT was pleased to see the President of MIFF Nikita Mikhalkov, actor Philippe Reinhardt, actress Elena Kondulainen, actor and singer Alex Sparrow, actress Irina Miroshnichenko, and film director and producer Jean-Jacques Annaud among others.

The event could be truly named international since the winners announced included filmmakers from all around the world. It is not a surprise that the director of the American documentary film Cartel Land (2015), Matthew Heineman, received a special prize called the Silver George. When Matthew appeared in front of the press, right after the ceremony, he thanked everyone and said he was happy to be a part of such an amazing festival. Here is the full list of winners:

The main prize, Golden St George, was awarded to director Ivaylo Hristov, film Losers (Bulgaria, 2015)

Jury’s Special prize, Silver St George, was awarded to director Irina Evteeva, film Arventur (Russia, 2015)

Silver St George Award for Best Directing was presented to film director Frederikke Aspock, movie Rosita (Denmark)

Silver St George Award for Best performance By an Actor was received by actor Yerkebulan Daiyrov for his role in the movie Toll Bar (Kazakhstan)

Silver St George Award for Best Documentary was presented to director Matthew Heineman, film Cartel Land (USA)

Prize for Best Short Film was awarded to director Yunha Kim, film Sniper’s Observation Method (South Korea)

The Jury President and French film director Jean-Jacques Annaud received a special prize for their outstanding contribution to world of cinema. The prize was presented by the President of MIFF, Nikita Mikhalkov.

Also, English actress Jacqueline Bisset, received a special prize for outstanding achievement in her acting career and Devotion to the Principles of Konstantin Stanislavsky’s School.

Finally, the People’s Choice Award for the best film in the main competition was presented to director Goran Radovanovic, film Enclave (Serbia).
