Lorraine Bracco was originally asked to play the role of Carmela on “The Sopranos,” but she felt that the part was too similar to her character in 1990 theatrical “Goodfellas.” As a result, she decided the role of Dr. Melfi would be more challenging.

Household Rating/Share
CBS: 3.7/ 6, ABC: 3.6/ 6, NBC: 2.6/ 4, Fox: 1.8/ 3, CW: 0.8/ 1

Percent Change From the Year-Ago Evening:

Fox: +12, NBC: no change, CW: -11, ABC: -14, CBS: -23,

Ratings Breakdown:
Only “The Odd Couple” on CBS was an original telecast last night.  Yet, CBS won this second Monday of 2017 in the overnight households, besting No. 2 ABC by one-tenth of a rating point. But the home of “The Bachelor” is still the network to beat in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demographics).

An encore of “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS topped the night, with a 5.5 rating/8 share in the 8 p.m. half-hour.  And that led into repeats of “Kevin Can Wait” (#2: 3.7/ 5), “Man With a Plan” (#2: 3.1/ 5), aforementioned “The Odd Couple” (#2: 3.4/ 5) and an encore of “Scorpion” (#1: 3.2/ 5) from 8:30-11 p.m.  CBS has upped the episode orders for freshman comedies “Kevin Can Wait” and “Man With a Plan” to 24 and 22, respectively, this season.

In series-premiere news, ABC half-hour game show “Big Fan,” from Jimmy Kimmel and hosted by Andy Richter, was a big fizzle, with the debut installment at a 2.3/ 4 in the household overnights in the 10 p.m. half-hour (#2). A second episode at 10:30 p.m. sunk to a last-place 1.7/ 3 at 10 p.m.  Comparably, the two episodes of “Big Fan,” on average, trailed a repeat of “Scorpion” on CBS (3.2/ 5) by 37 percent.  A repeat of NBC’s “The Wall” scored a 2.0/ 3.

TCA – Showtime Announces Two New Series: “Twin Peaks” Premiere Date
From PromaxBDA: Unlike ABC, CBS and NBC—all of which opted against addressing the Television Critics Association winter press tour—Showtime President and CEO David Nevins and President of Programming Gary Levine on Monday took the stage in Pasadena, Calif.

“We have firmly established our company as not only a premium cable network, but also as a premium OTT service,” opened David Nevins, who announced the pickups of drama “The Chi,” and sitcom “White Famous.” With our subscription model, our ever increasing streaming audience and our strength of schedule, we are uniquely positioned to take advantage of all the trends that are occurring in the media business right now.”

Set in Chicago, “The Chi” looks beyond the headlines to explore the experiences of the people who call the South Side home. “White Famous,” based on the personal experiences of co-creator Jamie Foxx, features “Saturday Night Live’s” Jay Pharoah as an upcoming star who must maintain his credibility as he begins to transition toward becoming “white famous.”

Showtime Renews “The Affair”
Showtime has issued a fourth season pick-up to drama “The Affair” before the third season finale, which airs on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 10 p.m. ET.  “The Affair” explores the emotional and psychological effects of an affair that destroyed two marriages, and the crime that brings these individuals back together, as told through multiple perspectives. Season three picked up three years after Noah’s (Dominic West) shocking admission of guilt at the murder trial of Scott Lockhart. Noah attempts to restart his life, but the damage wrought by his past decisions has made him a ghost of his former self.  Alison (Ruth Wilson) has been raising daughter Joanie alongside Cole (Joshua Jackson) and Luisa (Catalina Sandino Moreno) in Montauk, but Alison’s past continues to rear its ugly head as Cole and Luisa attempt to build their own future.

Fuse Greenlights Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias Series for Season Three
Fuse, the cable network themed to the Latino 18-34 audience, has announced the renewal of Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias series, now tentatively titled “Fluffy Food Adventures.”  Formerly called “Fluffy Breaks Even,” the upcoming third season will feature Fluffy and his eccentric tour mates and fellow comedians Martin Moreno (“Stuck”), Rick Gutierrez (“I’m Not Mad, I’m Just a Parent”), Alfred Robles (“The Fluffy Movie: Unity Through Laughter”) and G Reilly (“Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand-Up Revolution”) as they bring their humor (and appetites) to Harlem, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Atlanta, New Orleans and Nashville for a taste of the locals’ favorite spots.

In advance of the new season this summer, three short-form series exclusive to Fuse’s growing digital and social platforms will begin roll out, including “Fluffy Off the Menu.”  “Fluffy’s Food Adventure” and  “Fluffy Off the Menu” are produced by Iglesias and co-produced with B-17 Entertainment and Arsonhouse Entertainment.

NOTES OF INTEREST“I’ll Have What Phil’s Having” Moves to Netflix
Food and travel-themed series “I’ll Have What Phil’s Having,” which aired on PBS in 2015, is moving to Netflix.  The six-episode series, which overall received positive reviews in season one, was not cost effective for PBS and Netflix has opted not to continue it.  A new title is expected to be announced. Further details, including an episode count and premiere date, have not been confirmed yet.Hosted by Phil Rosenthal, “I’ll Have What Phil’s Having” features the “Everybody Loves Raymond” creator exploring culinary capitals of the world as he dines on regional specialties around the world.

Correction: The CW’s “Supernatural,” which has been renewed for season 13, will become the ninth longest-running scripted drama in television history (behind “Gunsmoke” and “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “Lassie,” “CSI” and “ER,” “NCIS” and “Bonanza”).  The original “Hawaii Five-O” and “NYPD Blue,” at 12 seasons each, are now tied at No. 10 overall.  I forgot “NCIS”!
